I Am So Worn-Out These Days

What is the deal? I KNOW you think it’s just a symptom of the weather, but does it have to be that? I figure my being so worn-out all the time is just due to the hurt of living or whatever. Life went gangrenous at some point in the past year, with the extra money and the football and the online dates-a-thons. It’s a lot for one person. It’s a lot for all of us.

On top of which, there’s never been so much to stay up for! The interwebs! Facebook is a nightmare calling my name every minute of the day. People have statuses: attention must be given. Someone’s posting pictures to their galley on Flickr: I need to be there to offer encouragement. Guys I like are posting links, for real, like EVERY DAY. What happens if I don’t click on them? I don’t want to find out, and neither do you. It’s a wonder I get any time to sleep. I should be applauded.

My key to staying awake remains to be tea. I find now that one cup a day is about all my body can handle, but that’s sufficient to get me through most of the morning. Awesome! Good job everybody, let’s go home. But what’s this? There’s more to the day, turns out. Is Facebook to blame, somehow?

So it’s been with great interest that I’ve turned to getting out of the house more lately and trying to limit the online activity. But I’ve realized I’ve done more shopping in the past three days than I would in a month. I think I like the latter the least. So the point is I’m here, exhausted after work and the gym but updating my blog. Playing a part in the online discussion. Creating content. Presenting all of you who are sitting in front of your computer screens a good reason for doing so. I am now free of my responsibilities for the evening; who knows where the blogospheres will take me next. My ass is numb, my bed cold but my laptop is affectionately warm. There’s a playlist queue to organize. There’s media pouncing on a male actor struggling to hold on to some slice of self-respect as he paints his face white for a red carpet event. There is music to reach out to, and high-resolution photographs of dishes I’m not interested in eating. I’m awake, let’s friggin’ do this.

Zero 7: noun – a kickass electronic/power-pop styled musical duo.

Oh, and the track by them 'In The Waiting Line' features vocals by Sophie Barker. So play it, turn it up, and stay still, because they’ll be sure to bring the noise.

If anyone would like to contact me, send me freebies, or just say how awesome I am you can reach me at evelinerajan@gmail.com

I spent Friday morning at home and then went to meet Natasha, a friend I would be seeing after 15 long years (thanks to Facebook, we found each other again). Its weird meeting someone that shared your snacks, played in the mud with you and held your hand during parent-teacher meetings. I always feel strange facing people from my past, because while I love recollecting and reliving those memories, I know I won’t ever live there again, and while I love meeting old friends, I know that they are so different now. I don’t really know where my current friends will be a couple of years from now, and sometimes that makes me feel anxious.
However, my meeting was anything but anxious. We did nothing but talk about old times and our lives now. I even got to revisit that favorite feeling from my childhood, the one where we’d bunk classes just to go eat some of those black and white peppermint candies, kick the mud and get our white shirts dirty, sleep with happy tiredness and exhaustion, then wake up in the morning, listen to our parents shouting at us for being horrible little imps, and then get our shirts mud-stained again.
The story might seem really lame, but lame is sort of a doubtful point when you’re talking about what makes you all emotional. And it wasn’t that I got emotional because the little friends I befriended back then were so cute and true and modest, but seeing them in the flesh it got to me. That’s right: I teared up after hugging Nat and watching her ride away. Recollecting misty water colored memories, don’t make me cry? No. Just coming face to face with them, apparently.

Alright, you’re just here for the music so let’s get to it. This one’s a blast from the past. Before you listen to it be warned that this baby is a one-hit wonder from 1997 by White Town aka Jyoti Prakash Mishra. It’s worth it, but plan accordingly. And a bit of snooping around led me to his blog named ‘Bzangy Groink’.

The track ‘Your Woman’ reminds me a lot of early 90’s pop smashed up against standard Ace of Base. Interested?
Anyway, if we were playing “one of these things is not like the others” this would be the track you should choose. Where the rest of this month is filled with typical folk/alternative styles, this track is as smooth and fluid as we all thought Prince and Gloria Estefan used to be. I could have kept this information to myself and only listened to it with headphones on, pretending all along I was nodding my head to new tracks by some awesome rock band, but at some point the lies would have caught up with me. And a liar is just not the type of blogger that I want to be. Good week, blogosphere!

It’s Christmas Time

‘Day four was a busy day at CharMile. Wedding preparations were underway and the family count had gone up from 50 to 200. Every corner was bustling with conversation, men carrying things up and down, some setting up tents, others creating a ‘Morung’. Women crowded around the big kitchen, cutting, cooking and serving the people that just kept pouring into the house from villages and towns. I met a lot of people, none of whose names I remember and the rest of the evening was spent, snapping away pictures of the loud and busy crowd, recording memories.’

I understand that, for the young, like me, Facebook has a number of tempting qualities.
However, the worst things about this social networking site, as far as I can tell, are that you find out all the people you wanted to date in high school but couldn't dream of doing so because you were such a geek. And all the people you were jealous of and wanted to be so badly that it made you hemorrhage, are now fat and married with a dozen kids. Yep, all those "beautiful people" back in school have now been attacked by balding, gray hair, double chins, expanding waistlines, making known that age has slowly become their enemy.
I love the fact that people who refused to speak to me in school or college are apparently now excited to be my "friend" and remember the good old days. First, it makes me laugh then it makes me pity them, because their lives must be pretty empty. Then I throw in some self-loathing, because I always approve their friend request. Then I wish I hadn't, because they invariably start sending me applications to add... and I dislike that almost as much as I despised them in school.

How did December get here so quickly? What happened to the rest of 2008? Have I been drunk or depressed so much that an entire year has melted together? I wasn't quite ready to accept the answers to those questions. But, if one has to jump right into December and the holiday season, there's only one way to do it- homemade holiday cookies and everybody getting sugar-rushed while we decorate the tree.
With all that’s happening around us nowadays it's so easy to find a way around the practice and just live your life from one turbulent day to another, so moments spent with friends, family, goodies and that warm cozy feeling is more of a treat. It's truly one of the best times of the year. And I've got goodies from Nagaland that are rapidly disappearing!
The good times aren’t going to last long and I'm certainly not ready for a whole season of it yet, but it's awfully exciting to think of it.

Once I put up my Christmas tree and decorate my home I promise to put up pictures.
Happy December, Happy Holidays everyone!

As long as I have blog left in me I will continue to take in your music recommendations and post them here. Jon McLaughlin’s music was introduced to me by my good friend Imcha. I encourage you; I implore you, to please check out his music. Go to his page, stream his music on YouTube, or just press play on the player below that has been posted here on EC. Whatever you do don’t brush this post aside. Let the new pop-rock sounds of Mr. McLaughlin sink to the depths of you and ease you through this weekend. He’s brilliant and you’d be a fool for choosing not to hear his music. The song entitled ‘Beautiful Disaster’ is pure and simple with lyrics and melodies that tug at your heart.
Here’s to hoping he has a long and successful career because I’d love to hear some more of his particular brand of genius.

If you like the music here then puh-leeez share it with your friends, lovers, etc. And thanks to Imcha for this brilliant song.

Take it away Mr. McLaughlin!
