Although just sometime back I was saying how much alone time I usually have to enjoy my peace and quiet, things actually haven't been that way since. It's been a wound up program, albeit an agreeable one. This morning is my only free time until tonight where I plan to spend it zoned out on the sofa, neglecting all of the things I ought to catch up on (work, self-assessments, colleagues, WORK).

So just what have I been up to the past two days? For starters, Pratz, my good ol friend from college, surprises me by landing in the city. This time around I still had issues with time, but the moments we spent together were enhanced by the fantastic entertainment provided by her fiancĂ©, Josh, who had come here to meet me. I also had the pleasure of meeting her cousins, who were extremely funny and brilliantly informative. So that brings us up to this morning, which is my time of rest (God isn't the only one who deserves one, you know). Tonight is Pratz’ last night in B’lore and that's when the good times and loud banter will end. If I've learned anything from Pratz it is that there are still amazing and thoughtful people out there (buried amongst the crap), and I've been lucky to have found my best in-person, flesh-and-blood friend. Some people are fortunate enough to have two families - the one they are raised in, and the one that they form with the friends they gather. There are always highs and the lows but each has the possibility, to remain forever. I'm blessed to have both, and I adore them all, even if they take seasons to be dysfunctional.

Today I’m not going to be pounding out some words on the track I upload here but it’s still filling you in on some awesomeness.
And now I have this thinly veiled attempt at an ego boost request, and I'd like to ask my readers to please leave a comment on this post. Just say hi, so I can get a sense of who is out there or let me know how you came upon this humble little site or give me a good artist suggestion and I’ll make sure I get a hold of their music. Once again, thanks for swinging by Evuhleen’s Corner. I hope you keep coming back!

For Pratz, You are a lucky star and your light shines though all the way!

Hugs from Eve!

A Quick Update

At long last, my tickets have arrived for Dimapur, Nagaland. I’ll be going for a month long vacation, leaving next month: My Quest Is to Learn All I Can about Naga Culture and It’s People. I mention this not only because my blogging may be spotty for the next month, but also because some of these places I’m going to will have names, which I hope to god, I spell right.

First order of business: I must add him, my travel agent, to the list of people to whom I owe a debt of gratitude for his help in arranging my journey.

Second order of business: A Thank you goes out to my dear friends who offered to be my guides in the city.

Third order of business: Ru’s back and my package from my air hostess friend has arrived. Many little souvenirs from her trips around the world and a letter that left me crying. Pratz, I miss you!

So, that’s the update for Sunday! As for me, I’ll probably be over here re-reading the letter. Sob. Sob. Just… just knock first, okay?

Muse

There’s something about this track that is intoxicating. Almost makes me wish I was playing bass. This single impresses me with the amount of energy that is crammed into it. Seriously, a video of one of their live concerts will leave your mouth hanging open. Somehow they prove that nothing can be more awesome than a Muse track. If you’re only going to listen to one song today, this should be it.

I’m hoping I never find it necessary to ever cook in my life. I realize that such a wish would be frowned upon by the many individuals who read this blog but I really hate cooking. Sometimes fights with mom call for Maggie noodles and that I can deal with.

Once upon a time I used to be quite passionate about cooking but the event that changed it all was when I went to visit my dad in Dubai. He was at work and I was all excited about cooking up something special. So, instead of ordering from a restaurant I decided to play chef. A brief search of the kitchen revealed just the ingredients I needed to make some rice and chicken curry.
I opened up the packet of Chicken curry masala and followed the directions given on it. I suppose I used more than I was supposed to because I really wanted the flavor to stick out. I prepared the rice by calling mom who was back home in India. She didn’t have the patience so she ran through the entire thing in a hurry and hung up. I had a couple of distractions in between but I thought the food looked as it was supposed to.

My dad came back, I set the table and then we sat down to eat. He picked up his fork and took a bite. He was not one of those fathers who would tell their daughters it was nice when it wasn’t just to make them happy. I’ve never seen my father move at such speed the way he did that day, to the sink to spit out my hard work. Then he spent the longest time trying to rid his mouth of the taste of the food after which he told me, ‘You never have to cook as long as you stay with me.’ And from that day on cooking began to frighten me. The damage to my psyche is colossal and it would take a shrink a year or two to help me over it.

I received a call today from an old friend who works as an airhostess. She dutifully calls me every month just to make sure I’m not getting myself into trouble. And while she has been absent for many of my failures I thank her for having lots of faith in me and spending all that money on calls to make sure we stay great friends. I remember I cried on and off for the whole day when she left to Doha.

I don’t normally address political issues here because thinking about it gets me so angry and depressed but I just have to say that I don’t get Indian politics and it’s obsession to include everything religious. Corrupt politicians have managed to twist religion so thoroughly to their own ends that they’ve reduced God to a tool to help them get and maintain power. How can I vote for anyone when I don’t believe a word coming out of their mouths?

After I’m done posting this I intend to execute my scheme to take over the world. If you aren’t with me, you're against me.

Now, for something fun. The Doobie Brothers… weren’t they an awesome band?

The guitars are crisp and it’s one of the best tracks out of this band. Also, the instruments explode in this song. The arrangements and the layers sound great. The song accomplishes what it sets out to do and wraps up without any loose ends. ‘Long Train Running’ is a track definitely worth checking out and if you’re looking for something to put you in a good mood then this song comes highly recommended.

To Pratiksha.

That Which Is Fundamental

My dear old friend – sheenz - called up last night and we were just talking about my situation with Mister N. I’ve decided to not talk to him ever- which is really a coward’s way out, but hell, anything to lose him. I’m going to meet up with sheenz, kau, divz and hopefully fudgy tonight, some of the people I used to hang out with during my college days. It’s really nice to know that as the years pass and our stress levels rocket, some people are still are as crazy as ever. Even though I do not meet up very often with this group of friends, I always have so much fun whenever I am with them. Time stands still during such meetings and we are all transported back to our college days where our biggest worries revolved around assignments and exams, not just people in the rat race!

Busy as I am, I’m very happy to make time to go to the same cafĂ© with the delicious tea! Once in a while, I have a life too. I can’t wait for the evening. Indulgence and gossip over dessert. Maybe I should be doing this more often!

I got a call at 2 in the morning from Pratz. She sounded like she wanted to talk. Whenever she calls we plunge full gear into a miss you-love you session! But this was so early in the morning, so it was more like an exchange of grunts, at least from my side. Really miss you, Pratz. Sigh! Remember our crazy times in college? It all seems just like yesterday; I can't believe how fast these four years have flown past!

These past few months I sleep a lot less and spend a lot less time at home. Many days, I come home to sleep and am off to work the next morning. As an example, I have not spent more than a couple of hours with my LemLem! My gym clothes are taking a break in my cupboard, just as my fat is multiplying!

We all feel differently about certain issues and my opinions are worth something to me, so please be kind.

When I went shopping on Saturday, I dragged my cousin along through all my favorite shops. So in and out of shops we went, but the only stuff I ended up buying was for myself! Its official, I am a shopaholic!

I’m listening to Sara Taveres’ ‘One Love’ and it’s really hard to stop your head from swirling with her voice hitting the right chords- very sensual and very fun. This is what music is missing most, today. Feeling. Everything is just so… formula like nowadays. It takes talent to break through the barrier of what you want people to feel when you play or sing. There is a filter that only the talented can make it through. We need more of them, and less of the formula.
